The GeoMAPP project is exploring ways to expand the capabilities of state governments to provide long-term access to geospatial data. The project is bringing together geospatial and archival staff in multiple states to identify, preserve, and make available temporal and superseded digital geospatial data with ongoing value.

A key approach will include testing a geographically dispersed content-exchange network for the replication of state and local geospatial data among several states to promote preservation and access.

Objectives

  • Formulate best practice guidelines and business cases for geospatial data archiving
  • Document existing archival appraisal, audit, accessioning and disposition requirements for digital geospatial information
  • Spur collaboration between the library/archive and geospatial staff of each state to bring about data preservation
  • Explore the transfer of geospatial content between several state partners
  • Broadly share project results with stakeholders in all states
