Annual Innovation Awards

A committee of NDSA members solicits and reviews nominations to give out recognition awards to promote innovative work in the field. Nominations now being accepted for 2013.

Content Case Studies

The Content Working Group is gathering and sharing compelling stories that demonstrate the value of digital preservation in our communities.

Digital Preservation In A Box(external site)

The Outreach Working Group developed Digital Preservation In A Box, an online collection of resources for the learning and teaching of digital preservation – collected, organized and accessible through one place.

Digital Preservation on Wikipedia(external site)

The Standards and Best Practices Working Group is working together to improve the accuracy and breadth of information on the Digital Preservation page on Wikipedia and recast it as an appropriate launch page to more detailed information about standards and best practices.

Insights Interview Blog Post Series on The Signal

Members are interviewing people with experience interesting to but outside of the digital preservation field.

Levels of Preservation

Members are defining a brief set of guidelines on tiered levels of digital preservation.

Staffing Survey

This project exposed the current state of staffing in libraries and archives around digital preservation. The poster (PDF, 1.2 MB) describing this survey won second place at iPRES and a report describing the full results will be produced this spring 2013.

Storage Survey

The NDSA Infrastructure Working Group conducted a 2011 survey of member institutions on their institutions' current long-term archival storage for digital materials and projected storage needs for the future. The information from this survey was shared though a series of blog posts and an article which will be published in D-Lib in 2013. Early analysis of the survey is available here.

Completed Projects

Web Harvesting Survey

This 2011 survey (PDF, 272 KB) exposed the landscape of web archiving activities in the United States, including what organizations or individuals are archiving, what types of web content are being preserved, the tools and services being used, and what type of access is being provided for researchers.
