Identification and description Explanation of format description terms

Full name ISO/IEC 15444-1:2004. Information technology -- JPEG 2000 image coding system -- Part 1: Core coding system, Amendment 1: Codestream Restrictions, Profile 4 (formal name); JPEG 2000 Profile 4 (common name)
Description Implementation of JPEG 2000 Core Coding (Part 1) that constrains the use of variables in the specification ("restricts the codestream") to serve 4K presentations within the Digital Cinema Initiative's DCP_1_0. The restrictions include image size limited to 4,096 x 2,160 pixels, no more than one tile, 12-bit bit depth per component, no more than 6 decomposition levels, CPRL compression order, progression order and tile parts to support the scalable decompression of a 2K image as well as the 4K image, and maximum compressed bytes per frame (aggregate of color components) 1,302,083 (24 fps).

Additional general information about JPEG 2000 profiles is provided in the Notes to J2K_C Notes.
Production phase Final-state content distribution by those who follow the Digital Cinema Initiative DCP_1_0 specification.
