The Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) has received a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to offer subsidized video and audio preservation services to artists and small to mid-sized arts and cultural heritage organizations. NEA funding will also support BAVC’s efforts to advance audiovisual preservation practice and theory based on new and innovative developments in the field.
Through its preservation work, BAVC aims to increase public engagement with historical and diverse media art and media-based documentation of arts and culture. “We are grateful for the support the NEA has provided BAVC’s Preservation activities”, says Moriah Ulinskas, BAVC’s Director of Preservation. “With this new fund BAVC will have the opportunity to bring these resources to the artists and the arts and culture organizations whose recorded collections might otherwise become inaccessible to future audiences.”
BAVC will provide a suite of services, including preservation planning, collection assessment tools and training, and analog-to-digital preservation transfers, at a discounted rate based on organizational budget size. Prospective preservation clients will be asked to complete an application describing their media collection and needs; the first round of applications will be accepted through July 17, 2013.
